Dumeklemmer I

The thumb squasher's legend of Ratingen (German: Dumeklemmersage) tells about a time when the pagan inhabitants of the town of Ratingen closed the town gate on the thumb of Saint Suitbertus and this prevented him from converting the citizens of Ratingen to Christianity. Since that time, as divine penalty, the children of Ratingen were born with flat thumbs.
