The Egg of Holtwick is a big legendary glacial erratic block. Since long time it's the landmark of Holtwick, district of the municipality Rosendahl in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany.
A glacial erratic block is a piece of rock that deviates from the size and type of rock native to the area in which it rests; the name "erratic" is based on the errant location of these boulders. These rocks were carried to their current locations by glacial ice. Erratics can range in size from pebbles to large boulders such as the Okotoks (16,500 tons) and Airdrie erratics found in Alberta, Canada. They can be found many miles away from their place of origin.
The giant granite rock, whose shape reminds visitors of an egg, was carried to the area of Rosendahl about 200,000 Years ago at the time of the Saale ice age. It's weight is estimated to 30t.
This giant "egg", that is protected by nature conservation, is sticking in the ground at the north part of the village in the center of a small park. The height over ground is approx. 2m but it's about double the size below ground level.
There are many legends dealing with this block. For example that the devil himself tried to destroy the church of Holtwick by throwing this rock at the church. He missed the church and the rock hit the ground at the place, where it still is today.

Heute war es soweit,
eine lang⏱ geplante Tour , um möglichst viele Earthcache🌍 an einen Tag
zu besuchen , stand auf dem Programm. Da,war viel Vorarbeit😅
vonnöten. Das Cachemobil 🚗vollgetankt fuhren🛣 wir von Ort🏡 zu Ort🏰,
der Karneva🎉l ging uns voll am Ar..💩. vorbei. Leider wollte das
Wetter🌦 nicht so wie wir, aber das hat man als Cacher eh nicht in der
Hand.
Wie immer hat das beantworten der Fragen wie gewohnt der elmofant in unseren Namen übernommen.
. Ich bedanke mich an alle Owner für das auslegen und pflegen der Caches. DFDC😎😀
Caches die mir besonders gut gefallen haben, sind mit ein 💙😀 veredelt worden

Die heutige Runde mit Team Lüdo und MeliM ließ uns hier ein wenig wildern um auch hier ein paar Smileys [:)] auf unsere Karte zu zaubern. Bei Cacherwetter konnten wir in der bewährten Runde einige Dösken finden. Dieser war auch dabei. Vielen Dank für das Verstecken der Dose und das Zeigen der Gegend, in die wir ohne diese Dose heute sicherlich nicht gekommen wären.

Da wir die meisten Cache in unserer Homezone nur noch als [:)] sehen, können wir uns hier so richtig austoben. Auf einer Runde mit Fabi01 und MeliM konnten wir auch diesen EC lösen und ein [:)] auf unsere Karte zaubern.
Vielen Dank an Christian und die Wutze für das die Informatinen und das Zeigen der Gegend, in die wir ohne diesen EC sicherlich nicht gekommen wären.
Einen schönen Gruß aus Germany, NRW, Dortmund, Lüdo und bis bald im Wald.
