This monument was build to remember the completion of the channel between Donau and Main in 1846. It could count as a lost place, because the former channel is gone. The Autobahn occupies the space where it has been. Even the monument is no longer at its original place. The road right in front of it made it necessary to move it several meters east.

You can visit an other small lost place on the route to the cache. Above the monument is the garden and building where the poet August Graf von Platen lived. It seems the city of Erlangen doesn't have enough money to keep it in good shape.
You can reach the cache without crossing private property, but it is difficult. You'll perhaps need some tape, wire, string or something similar to do repairs. You don't need to climb the monument.
