Already in 1331, documentary indications are given that „sour” water exists. People found out soon that the water from“sour wells” – as they were called formerly – had a healing effect. The symptoms of heart diseases, circulatory disorders and rheumatism could be eased with this sour water.
First, the water was delivered in clay jugs and later on in glass bottles. With this water it served as a therapeutic “drinking cure” and became quickly known far over the boundaries from Bad Vilbel.
Whoever owned a piece of land, drilled to find water. Not everybody found water but there were numerous official and inofficial springs. Due to this phenomenon, a lot of springs dried up. In consequence to that, the drilling and the use of the water was regulated by a court decision in order to avoid excessive exploitation.
The original spring of the water is 50 km north of Bad Vilbel in the Vogelsberg area. On the way to deeper layers of earth the rain picks up the minerals from the volcanic stones of the Vogelsberg. These special minerals are typical for Bad Vilbel’s mineral water and make it so valuable. Dissolved natrium, calcium, hydrogen carbonate and iron as well as free carbonic acid are the main mineral ingredients of this water.
At the beginning of the 19th century, therapeutic baths were on offer. On top of the mineral water trade, the health resort business developed. In the 60ies,
there were 23 different types of mineral waters from Bad Vilbel which were filled into bottles and sold.
Today, the town is trying to liven up again the health resort business that has fallen away within the past few decades.
From the numerous mineral water factories, only two are left as of today. One of them is one of the market leaders in Germany.

Start:
You are in front of a fountain. The cone with his different colors, symbolize the geological substance of Bad Vilbel. These stratums must pass the water up to the surface.
How many different colors did the cone have, including socket?
