Im botanischen Garten der Universität Oldenburg gibt es ein Podsolprofil auf Sandablagerungen einer alten Düne in Oldenburg Wechloy. Um den Cache zu loggen macht ein Foto von Euch vor dem Podsolprofil. Hunde und Fahrräder sind hier nicht erlaubt, der botanische Garten kann kostenlos und nur tagsüber besucht werden.Podsol-Böden sind in den Geestlandschaften Nordwestdeutschland [1] weit verbreitet. Sie entstehen unter Heidevegetation durch Auswaschung und Stoffentzug durch die sauer wirkende Streu der Heidekrautgewächse [2].

Der Podsol (aus dem russischen frei übersetzt: Ascheboden), auch Bleicherde oder Grauerde genannt, ist ein saurer, an Nährstoffen armer bzw. verarmter Bodentyp in einem feuchtkalten oder feuchtgemäßigtem Klima. Er entsteht durch starke Versauerung in einem klimatisch gesteuerten Prozess der abwärts gerichteten Verlagerung (Auswaschung) von Eisen- und Aluminiumhydroxiden sowie Humusstoffen mit dem Sickerwasser.

Die Entstehung von Podsolen bezeichnet man auch als Podsolierung. Meist entstehen sie auf sauren Ausgangsgesteinen wie Sandstein, Granit oder auf Flugsanden.

In the botanic garden of the university of Oldenburg [3] you can find a profile-cut of the podsol-ground which is very common in this area. For logging this cache please take a photo of you and you GPSr in front of the profile. The place ist public accessible at opening times without charge. Dogs and bikes are not allowed.

Podsol-Grounds are very popular erosional feature in northwest-germany. The name is Russian for "under ash" (pod=under, zola=ash) and likely refers to the common experience of Russian peasants of plowing up an apparent under-layer of ash. These soils are found in areas that are wet and cold like northern Germany and also in warm areas such as Florida where sandy soils have fluctuating water tables (humic variant of the northern podzol or Humod).

The "geest"-ground is created by acid washing and mineral withdraw of the erica-vegetation in humid clima. Podsol need acid grounds, upon hard sand layers.
