Description    Deutsch  ·  English

[EN] This Cache is dedicated to the last remaining sand stone pit in Linz. Sand used to be mined here until 1938. It was mainly used for building purposes. Sand Stone can be found nearly everywhere in the western part of Linz.

Some parts of the way to the cache are very steep. The Way is not very visible, you will have to find a trail over a sloping hill. You will not have to climb over a rock face.

Please respect the local wildlife. The cache is definately not in one of the small holes where swallows build their nests.

A former stone pit is allways an area, which includes dangers. Although this area is not dangerous if you have some outdoor experience you should act carefully. The cache can only be reached via the described route. The waypoints are described, you should not leave the main path at any other point. You will probably fall down a stone face if you do so. As described, you will also be unable to climb down on of the stone faces, even if you had the right equipment. You must not climb any stone faces. Sand stones is just a kind of Sand, that sticks together. It will break if you step on it. Of course, you will do that cache at your own risk.

You should not do that cache at night. There is an industrial park beneath the cache. The houses on the neighbouring hill have a complete overview over the area. Someone who will see the light of your torch will probably think, that you will burgle the industrial park. There has been a series of burglaries in this area. Due to political presure, the austrian police responds with full force to any kind of estimated burglaries. You should be aware of this, if you use a torch somewhere in a town at night.

As already mentioned, you can only leave the field path at a certain point. This point is N 48° 17'56'' E14° 16'28''. You should not walk along the fence, it is better to use the foothpath on the hill. Following the fence is not reasonable as you could stumble over many wires of old fences.

It is not recommendable to enter the cache, as parts of it could easily crash. As already mentioned: Do not climb the rockface. As you will see, sand keeps falling down, showing you how porous this material is. Do not leave the site via any other way, just use the path for the way back again.

leichterer Zustieg und nicht weniger interessant ist übrigens sprengmastas first (and only ;-) ) cave...

thx
