This Earthcache leads you in the national park Vanoise, this encloses big areas of the upper Maurienne and the Taranto As sharp in the Dépatement Savoy in the region of the Rhône Alpes. Here primarily we look once at the monolith of Sadieres, certainly one of the most impressive geologic formations of the surroundings, a great Landscape originated through erosion.

Geology: The geologic composition of the rocks seeming in the national park is varied, the visible rock seems passed away coloured. The rock originates from limestone, sandstone, gypsum, quartzites, gneiss, mica schist and slate. There have originated the mountains of the Alps before approx. 135 million years from a geologic foldingprocess. At that time, in the turn from the law at the chalk time the foldingprocess was caused by the continental tectronic. The Alps received the today's mountain form by erosion, above all, by the clearing away activity of the glaciers during the ice ages. The mountain form of the monolith is caused primarily by the firmer texture of the rock.

The monolith is a 93 meter high landmark, formed by erosion. The heterogeneous composition of rock results the different erosion in this case. The existing part of this landscape, today formed to the monolith, consists of more compact, harder and more resistend material than the by nature removed parts. The reason of this more resisant Stone is justified in a cavernous Surface of cement limestone, to see as a cement of calcium carbonate yellowish.

Geography: The internal zone applies more than about 530 km² about the Vanoise massif between the upper reaches of the Isère (Taranto As sharp) and the Arc (Maurienne) and lies in the Département Savoy. Here 107 summits are found more than 3000 m.o.t.s. The highest point is the grandee Casse with 3855 m.o.t.s. Today in the external, about 1.450 km² big zone one finds the most significant winter sports places of France beside venerable mountain villages.

History: The Vanoise-national park, in remaining France the first national park, was founded in 1963. In the approach one observed with suctions that home animals threatened to disappear like Alpine ibexes. A proclamation was allowed by the demands of the associations and federations to the national park, the national park was divided by the influence of some personalities in an internal one and an external zone, in the external zone the traditional village life as well as the gentle tourism are allowed. The monolith was scaled for the first time by Michel Paquier in 1957. Here, in the Maurienne, geology has formed a spectacular landscape.

TO LOG THIS EARTHCACHE:

Nearly the monolith, you find an information table. Please Answer me the following three Questions by mail, only the answer to the second question is shown on the table. MARK: Please do not describe any Informations into your log and do not show any details of the information table ! Thank You !

Question 1: What kinds of erosion do you know and whitch of them is responsible for the genesis of the monolith ?

Question 2: Michael Paquier first climbed onto the monolith in 1957, please tell me the first three identifications of his route (XX XX XX). The route is shown on the chart of the information table.

Question 3: Please send me the Koordinates of the highest Point you reached on the way walking around the monolith, always staying on the way (N45 ° XX.XXX E6 ° XX.XXX).
