A multi cache on a favorite walking/biking paths approximately 5 km long. A bike can do all but the last few meters to the final cache.

NOTE: Stages 1 thru 6 are located in a Natura 2000 Reserve (Schutzgebiete), please remain on the trails and public areas. The Final Cache location is outside the boundarys of the Reserve.

Stage 1: N 49.25.592 E 007 33.698

You will find a sign with two different numbers. (top is two digits, bottom number is one digit)

A = Top XX number, B = Bottom X Number.

Stage 2: N 49 25.694 E 007 34.121

C = Top number of top sign

Stage 3: N 49 25.944 E 007 34.094

This will bring you to an area where you can watch the airplanes depart and arrive from Ramstein AB. You are looking for a memorial to a young man.

D = Age of young man when he died?

Stage 4: N 49 25.950 E 007 33.534

Here you will find one of two memorials to the Ramstein Airshow Disaster (the other is located on Ramstein AB behind the North Side Chapel).

E = 4 digit year, on the lower right corner of the middle plaque (plaque listing all the names and dates of birth of those lost during the disaster)

Reference Point: Now continue around to N 49 25.546, E 7 33.420. This is the safest place to cross the road to the next stage. If you wish a bit shorter walk to/from the final, you can move your auto to the coordinates for Stage 5.

Stage 5: N 49 25.521 E 007 33.212

Here you will find a sign again with XX,0 km. From here just follow Trail 3 to the next stage and the Final.

F = XX numbers on the sign.

Stage 6: N 49 25.678 E 007 33.162

G = Last 2 digits on the sign.

Now for the Final:

N 49 25. (A * B + C * D - 1)
E 007 32 (E/5 + F * G - 52)

Alternative Means: You can do stages 1 - 4 in reverse (then continueing to Stage 5-6 and the final) by parking at N 49 25.978, E 7 33.466 (Park here at your own risk as there is a sign that states: unberechtigt parkend Fahrzeuge werden Kostenpflichtig abgeschleppt). Of course, finding a way back to your auto from the final will be a challenge!.

Schöne Runde auf bekanntem Terrain. Beim Final fielen dann die Blutsauger über mich her.

Heute stand diese Runde auf dem Programm.Die Stationen waren schnell gefunden.Leider war zum Anfang doch etwas laut.Nur am Finale tat ich mich ein wenig schwer,bis ich die Dose gefunden hatte.

Ein idealer Tag, sich von einem neuen Cache ins Grüne locken zu lassen, denn trotz des Lärms der Flugzeuge und Autos war der Spaziergang teils auch frühlingshaft idyllisch und von Vogelgezwitscher begleitet.

Das war für mich gewissermaßen ein kleiner Vor-Ostermarsch, direkt an der Quelle der Gewalt vorbei, dem größten US-Militärstützpunkt in Europa. Am Samstag, dem 07.04.2012, wird übrigens auf eben diesen Wegen ein "echter" Ostermarsch stattfinden. Er beginnt um 12 Uhr an Station 4.

Bis vor zwei Jahren gab es am Gedenkstein noch den Cache Flugtag '88 Memorial. Damals hatte ich ein wenig recherchiert: Dieser Gedenkstein wurde von einer Nachsorgegruppe der (großenteils schwerst traumatisierten) Überlebenden hart erkämpft. Das Grundstück musste eigens dafür gekauft werden. Ein zentrales Anliegen dieser Menschen war es, auf diesem Stein die Namen aller Verstorbenen sichtbar zu machen. Der offizielle Stein enthält keine Namen, ist nicht öffentlich zugänglich und selbst für Angehörige nur per Voranmeldung über bürokratische Hürden zu erreichen. Ein Foto davon fand ich auf der Website eines Mannes, der damals Frau und Kind verlor: ramstein-1988.de/14117.html. Er beschreibt dort auch sehr eindrücklich seine Erlebnisse am Flugtag 1988: ramstein-1988.de/17314.html.

Die Hinweise und die Dose waren leicht zu finden. Aber beim Ausrechnen war ich dann doch froh, dass ich mir an Station 1 auch die aus meiner Sicht deutlich unwahrscheinlichere Variante notiert hatte. (Das Listing wurde inzwischen offenbar eindeutiger formuliert, prima!) Kein Tausch.
