When this cache showed up, I was happy as finally someone had hidden a cache on the Hochtroetsch - I have already been waiting for such a cache for quite some time.

According to the weather forecast there was some hope that the fog will clear up in the afternoon. So I decided to delay my start and moreover, like fluchtpunkt, to start from the side of Semriach as this starting point lies higher up.

Many cars were parking in the area around the inn, but I was lucky to find still a place to leave my car. I then started followed the marked trail. At the way point indicated in the cache description I decided to follow the larger road to circument the damages caused by the storm. At the Fragneralm (a pasture) the fog became very dense and it was not easy to follow the trail. I decided to record some way points just in case I would run into troubles on my way back. Fortunately, the fog got less dense higher up. I did not meet many people on my walk: First a man and his son before Fragneralm, then an elder couple with a dog and finally two young men again with a dog. I recognized one of them as fluchtpunkt who saw my GPS-r and was asking me whether I was searching for something. I answered that not right at the moment, but that I was on my way to a cache.

While the way up to the point where the distance of the cache was only 600m (as the crow flies) was more a comfortable walk than a hike, this last part got more steep. Nevertheless, I managed to my surprise to arrive at the summit within the one hour limit. In the last part of my hike I was able to enjoy the sun. So I had chosen the right time to depart. After enjoying the fine weather and the nice and quiet atmosphere at the summit, I went for the cache which I found very quickly. The container reminded me of the start of my geocaching activities back in 2002. Illy containers have become rare by now.

As expected the way back to my car took my longer than the ascent as I had to be very careful in the steep part of the descent as it was somehow slippery and not trivial to manage with my foot. After I had safely managed the challenging part of my hike, the remaining part was again very relaxing. There was still some fog on my way back in the lower parts, but much less than during my ascent. I even became aware of the peace cross (Friedenskeuz) which I had passed on my ascent as well, but had not seen it. After a nice walk I finally arrived back at my car.

Thank you for hiding this nice cache which motivated me to start off for a hike despite the foggy weather. I am happy that there still exist cachers in the area around Graz who do not hide drive-in caches as their first cache. Moreover, I am grateful that this hiking cache is a day cache and not too difficult for me. I appreciate it if the number of hiking caches in the Graz area increases as I am tired of long drives.

PS: I feel that 3.5* overrates the terrain. Due to the steep part in between; I'd rate it as 3*. For most parts 2* is more accurate.
