Attention:
This cache can be searched until august 2008.

task:
Show me a spot on google map where the data is still missing
("we are sorry, but we don´t have imagery at this zoom level
for this region. try zooming out for a broader look").
This data needs to be missing for at least 7 (seven!) of the
highest zoom levels!
But be warned:
If google map is updating its data sources in the future and
your old link produces no missing data anymore, then Your log
will be removed by me and you have to search again.
procedure:
a) browse to http://maps.google.com
b) position to your spot by using mouse only
(avoid input of location names - otherwise step d) is not working)
c) switch to Hybrid modus
d) click on "link to this page"
e) log with this generated link - and that´s it!
Each person may only log 1 (one) spot, and please keep little distance
to other logged spots.

PS.
There are much more google map caches to discover, so just
invent your own one. But please use the same cache title
saying "Google Maps (...)" - this makes it much easier to
search for. And always maintain your cache by keeping up
a picture gallery with all founds, so that browsing through
all logs can be done visually

Wie in den Newseinträgen angekündigt, wird dieser Geocache nun für neue Logeinträge gesperrt. Falls der Geocache den aktuellen Nutzungsbedingungen angepasst wird, kann er wieder aktiviert werden.

James Cook landete 1775 auf den Sandwich-Inseln im Südatlantik. Hätte er damals Google Maps benutzt, wäre er wohl nie angekommen. Zumindest nicht ab der 11. Stufe. ;-)

Die libanesische Hauptstadt Beirut hätte er mit Hilfe des Satellitenbildes vielleicht gefunden, aber eine Karte steht ab der 9. Stufe bereits nicht mehr zur Verfügung:

Nachdem mein Log über Pitcairn berechtigterweise gelöscht wurde (die "Bilderlöcher" waren nur bei mittleren Vergrößerungen vorhanden), hier nun der nächste Versuch:
Der Name Pitcairn-Inseln bezeichnen eine Inselgruppe im Südpazifik, bestehend aus der Hauptinsel Pitcairn sowie den Inseln Ducie, Oeno und Henderson. Pitcairn erlangte Berühmtheit als letzte Zufluchtsstätte der Bounty-Meuterer ende des 18. Jahrhunderts. Die Nachkommen der Bounty-Meuterer leben heute noch dort. Weitere Infos und eine schöne Linksammlung gibt's bei Wikipedia.
Während Pitcairn selbst mittlerweile in der zweitbesten Zoomstufe bei google maps vorliegt, fehlen bei den anderen drei Inseln der Gruppe ganze elf Stufen bis zur höchsten Auflösung:
- Ducie (S24° 41.250' W124° 47.650'), ein unbewohntes, sandiges Atoll, etwa 500 km östlich von Pitcairn gelegen
- Henderson (S24° 22.700' W128° 19.500') ist ein Naturreservat und gehört seit 1988 zum Weltnaturerbe der UNESCO
- Oeno (S23° 55.633' W130° 44.383') ist ein ringförmiges Korallenriff, von dem nur die etwa 2,5 mal 0,5 km große, wie ein Schlüsselloch geformte Hauptinsel Oeno und die winzige Sandbank Sandy Island über die Meeresoberfläche ragen.
Anbei noch ein paar Bilder der vier Nebeninseln. Dieses Log bezieht sich auf die drei Inseln Oeno, Henderson und Ducie; d.h. sobald nur eine der drei Inseln irgendwann die Kriterien nicht mehr erfüllt, darf das Log gelöscht werden.

This is the first google map cache in english, so that
other sites (like http://www.opencaching.pl) are able to log too :-)
Here is an example of a very poor map data by google:

You get these missing data info for seven zoom levels!!!.
It seems that google doesn´t care for small islands like Neuwerk.
