task:
Welcome to the first virtual underwater cache.
Everybody knows that geocaching is like a treasure hunt,
and the best treasures are hidden inside sunken ships.
So find a ship which is (partly) under water
and discover it without getting wet

procedure:
a) browse to http://maps.google.com
b) position to your spot by using mouse only
(avoid input of location names - otherwise step d) is not working)
c) switch to satellite modus
d) click on "link to this page"
e) log with this generated link - and that´s it!

PS.
There are much more google map caches to discover, so just
invent your own one. But please use the same cache title
saying "Google Maps (...)" - this makes it much easier to
search for. And always maintain your cache by keeping up a
picture gallery with all founds, so that browsing through
all logs can be done visually

Wie in den Newseinträgen angekündigt, wird dieser Geocache nun für neue Logeinträge gesperrt. Falls der Geocache den aktuellen Nutzungsbedingungen angepasst wird, kann er wieder aktiviert werden.

23 February 2007 Indy+Lara found the geocache

Als wir diesen Cache gesehen haben dachten wird gleich an die S.S. Maheno auf Fraser Island. Ein ehemaliger Luxusliner der als er zum Verschrotten von Austrailen nach Japan gezogen werden sollte, weden eines Zyklons auf Grund lief. In den ersten Jahren wurde er von den Inselbewohnern sogar für Feste benutzt. Danach wurde es weniger schön...

Heute liegt das Schiff je nach Ebbe/Flut teilweise im Wasser und teilweise auf dem Strand.

Ca. 100 Meter von der Straße aus habe ich das Wrack dort liegen sehen. Zuhause angekommen, habe ich es mit Google Earth gesucht und gefunden. Das Wrack ragt teilweise aus dem Wasser heraus.

Es ist soweit ich als Laie erkennen kann, zwar kein Schiff in dem Sinne, doch aber ein von Menschenhand erbautes "etwas" mit nem großen Kran drauf:

Für viele ein Traumziel: Die Niederländischen Antillen
Nicht so für den deutschen Frachter Antilla, der 1940 von seiner Besatzung vor Aruba versenkt wurde, damit das Schiff nicht in die Hände der Holländer fiel, die ziemlich sauer über die Besetzung der Niederlande durch die Deutschen waren.

Das Schiff hat eine Länge von 133 Metern und ist damit das größte Wrack in der Karibischen See. Es liegt in knapp 20 Metern Wassertiefe seitlich auf dem Grund, Teile der Aufbauten (siehe Luftbild) ragen aus dem Wasser heraus.

Hier liegt im Hafen von Heraklion auf Kreta das Wrack eines alten Frachters.

Sieht toll aus, wenn man auf der Mole direkt daneben steht.

zwei Beispiele hinterher.

Zuerst ein Schiff, welches einwandfrei sichtbar gesunken ist:

als solches erkannt werden kann (außer mit Insiderwissen)
und deshalb auch nicht als Log zählt:

Es handelt sich hierbei um die USS Arizona, die beim
japanischen Angriff auf Pearl Harbor versenkt wurde und
