Descrizione
There is more than one reason to visit the Thaya valley. For example someone, that is me irgendwer has spent his best days of his childhood. If you could not care less, you still may visit the museum or the teaching path of the national park administration on whose parking lot between Merkersdorf and Hardegg you best park your car. You can visit Austria's smallest town with its castle Hardegg. There you may cross into the Cech Republic on foot over the reopened bridge and boarder. It's now 18 years they no longer shoot at those who do so. Some 12km away in Retz you'll find a spectecular town square, pitoresque wine cellars, and the location of a popoluar TV series with Christiane Hörbiger. In Merkersdorf, my mother's village you'll find an old castle, the Kaya, close to a forest lake. There are a couple of more castles close by, such as Karlslust in Niederfladnitz and the Riegersburg close to a lake where you can take a swim on hot summer days. Have fun in the hunting grounds of my childhood.

Nach einer tollen Wanderung am Schmugglerpfad mit Nationalpark Rangern des NP-Thayatal und des Narodny Park Podyji kurz auch hier vorbeigeschaut.
