Rug weaving
Rug weaving is mostly done by women in benches called "Istar". Rug is one of the oldest types of weaving. Rug weaving is a respected craft.
Natural paint (root paint) and wool handmade rugs are a cultural phenomenon in Turkey.
In the past, rugs were sent to army commanders, kings and queens as a gift in order to reinforce relations with European countries.
