⚔️ Geocaching meets games! A game of Kubb (Viking chess)! 🛡️♟️


Welcome, dear caching and gaming community!

Have you ever heard of Viking chess (Kubb)? It's a super fun and sociable throwing game that is said to have been invented by the Norsemen. The aim is to knock over your opponent's wooden blocks (the “servants”) with throwing sticks and ultimately topple the king. It's the perfect pastime for the cozy season! I would like to introduce you to this great game and cordially invite you all—whether you're a Viking chess veteran or a newcomer—to a convivial game in the heart of Dresden. Together we will conquer the Elbe meadows!

Don't worry, novices, you'll learn it in no time!

📝 Key details of the event

• When? Saturday, November 29, 2025
• Start: 3:00 p.m.
• End: 4:30 p.m. (overtime not excluded)
• (Logbook will be available during this time)
• Where? On the Dresden Elbe meadows near the Königsufer
• Coordinates:
• N 51° 03.390′ E 13° 44.358′
• (This is our temporary “Kubb arena”!)
• What will we be playing?
• Mainly: Viking chess (Kubb)
• If someone brings the appropriate equipment: We'd also be happy to play a spontaneous round of boules/boccia!

👑 Procedure & rules

Don't worry, you don't have to master the exact rules. I have a game set with me and will explain the basics in 5 minutes. The only important thing is:

• Two teams compete against each other.
• The goal is to knock down the opponent's blocks.
• The king in the middle must be the last to fall! If you hit him too early, you lose! 😱
• We play for fun and honor – there are no prizes, but fame and glory! 😉

Tip for all hobby strategists: Viking chess is said to be a mixture of bowling, horseshoe throwing, and chess. So use your caching experience for the necessary precision!

💡 A few more notes

• Food and drink: Refreshments will be provided for our brave warriors while supplies last (drinks, snacks). Otherwise, everyone is welcome to bring whatever they need.
• Equipment: I will provide the Kubb game. If you have a boules set, feel free to bring it along!
• Weather: We'll be there whatever the weather, except in the event of a storm or the end of the world. ☔️ Dress warmly!
