Near the cache lies the border between the two villages of Grumes and Valda, which were separate municipalities until 2015 and are now part of the municipality of Altavalle. Coming from Grumes towards Valda, the state highway begins to descend, while in the opposite direction, it has a gentler slope.

The road, known as the SS612, is popular with amateur cyclists, motorcyclists, and tourists heading towards popular destinations such as Val di Fassa or the western Dolomites. Over the last fifty years, the SS612 has undergone several realignment works that have made traffic flow more smoothly by eliminating single-lane sections. One of these old sections was located right near the cache.

In the past, there was a very narrow little bridge that allowed vehicles to cross the stream below, the Rio dei Peci or Pezi ("fir trees"). The name of the watercourse likely derives from the fact that its valley is covered in dense vegetation, consisting mainly of fir trees. In October 1981, the dense coniferous forest suffered extensive windthrow and damage due to heavy snowfall. Many years have passed since that event, and today almost no trace of it remains: the forest has repopulated with lush, new trees.

The Cache

A simple traditional cache hidden in a sheltered spot, ideal for a short stop nearby or a quick break during your journey.

The container is about 1 liter in size and is tucked away behind a stone and concrete wall, in a discreet position that is accessible without any particular difficulty. Given the size of the cache, it is possible to leave small trackables.
