Kavranova stena: Aussichtspunkt am Liebespfad

About the Location

The Ljubavna cestića (“Lovers’ Path”) in Crikvenica is a picturesque hiking trail, perfect for romantic strolls or a relaxing getaway into nature. This approximately 7-kilometer route was established in the early 1930s and owes its name to the many couples who once walked here arm in arm. The path winds through shady pine forests and Mediterranean vegetation, combining natural beauty with cultural landmarks. It’s suitable for both hikers and mountain bikers. Since much of the trail is shaded, it remains pleasant even on hot summer days.

Highlights of the trail include:

• Gradina Badanj Fortress: This ancient fortress sits about 60 meters above sea level. After standing for over 1,000 years, it was destroyed by an earthquake (not by conquest) in the 15th century and later abandoned. Along with traces of Roman presence, it is considered the oldest part of the historical heritage in the Crikvenica hinterland.

• Pod Veli Kamik: A former freshwater spring located above the trail, which has since dried up. A faucet and commemorative plaque still mark its location.

• Scenic viewpoints: Along the circular route, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the village of Tribalj and its reservoir, the settlement of Kotor, and—on the return leg—the sea.

• Animal encounters: With a bit of luck, you might come across free-roaming goats or even turtles along the way.

• Kavranova Stena: A striking rock formation rising steeply to about 290 meters, offering an impressive view across the valley. This is also where you’ll find the virtual cache.

• The “Summit Bench”: If you continue from Kavranova Stena, you’ll soon reach the highest point of the loop. Here you'll find the so-called "Summit Bench" (the actual mountain peak lies slightly above it), offering wide-ranging views of nearby villages, Kotor, and the ruins of the fortress across the valley. The descent back to the starting point provides additional scenic views of the sea and the island of Krk.

Make your way to Kavranova Stena – there you’ll find an information board. The first word in the top-left heading (in all capital letters) is the log password.
