Perched dramatically at the entrance to a vast cave system, Predjama Castle is the largest cave castle in the world. Built directly into a towering 123-metre limestone cliff, it has guarded this remarkable location for more than 800 years and is considered one of Slovenia's greatest architectural landmarks.
The castle is best known for its legendary owner, Erasmus of Lueg (Erazem Predjamski). During the 15th century he resisted an imperial siege for many months by secretly receiving food and supplies through a hidden passage leading out of the cave behind the castle. According to legend, he was eventually betrayed by one of his servants and killed by a cannonball while sitting in the castle's privy.
Today the castle is open as a museum (admission fee required). A free audio guide app accompanies visitors through the living quarters, armoury, cave passages and defensive structures while explaining the ingenious design of the fortress.
A live webcam regularly captures the freely accessible forecourt of the castle.
Step into the webcam's field of view and creatively include yourself or an item you brought along (for example a backpack, bicycle or hiking pole). It simply needs to be clear that you were actually there. Upload the webcam image with your log.
If the webcam is unavailable, or if you prefer not to use it, you may log the cache as a Virtual instead. In that case, upload a photo of yourself or a personal item with your favourite detail of the castle or its surroundings.
Have fun! :)
