The island can be explored on foot. Caution is advised near the cliffs, especially in strong winds.

Auf der Insel gibt es den kleinen 1 Flughafen Grímsey (IATA Code: GRY, ICAO Code: BIGR) mit einer 1030 m langen Landebahn. Im Sommer gibt es täglich Flugverbindungen nach Akureyri, im Winter fliegt Flugfelag nur dreimal wöchentlich. Darüber hinaus fliegen etliche Charter-Unternehmen.
Die Fähre von Dalvík nach Grímsey legt dreimal wöchentlich (Mo, Mi und Fr) am 2 Hafen von Grímsey an, sie hat eine Kapazität von 108 Passagieren. In den Sommermonaten empfiehlt sich eine Buchung über (+354) 450 1050 bzw. über die Tourist-Information von Akureyri.
