At 405 meters, Monte Grande is the highest point on the island of Sal and a prominent landmark visible from afar. The stark volcanic landscape, the constant trade winds, and the expansive views across the flat island give this place a special atmosphere.

The climb is short but exposed to sun and wind. Once you reach the top, a breathtaking 360-degree view awaits you: from the salt flats of Pedra de Lume across the vast plains to the north, all the way down to the coast and beaches in the south. Despite its importance, Monte Grande is a tranquil spot where you can experience the island from a completely different perspective. This is where your little adventure begins. Pack some water, hold onto your GPS receiver, and enjoy the hike to Sal's highest point.
