Nobody will argue that we need mobile GPS receivers for our hobby. But probably everyone of us had already had a problem with inaccurate coordinates. Whether they come from the GPS receiver or not carefully measured coordinates by the owner is difficult to tell.
In case your GPS receiver is the problem, you will find it out here! At the given coordinates you will find a public reference point for GPS receivers in the area of Berchtesgaden. Further information can be found here.
log conditions:
Visit the reference point. Put your GPS receiver on the middle of the plate and compare your coordinates with the ones shown on the plate. Please comment on the accuracy of your machine in your log entry (ideally with mentioning the type of GPS you are using). If you can also provide a picture, it is even better.
When stand infront of the plate and you look up, you can see parking spots for short time parking. How long are you allowed to parc there? The time is needed as a password to log this cache online.
By the way, my GPS (Garmin etrex 30) gave me the following data:
coordinates: N 47° 35.487' E 012° 59.309'
altitude: 604 m

Jeden Tag ein Cache.
Heute habe ich den geodätischen Referenzpunkt besucht und mein GPS direkt auf die Platte gelegt.
Mein Gerät (Samsung S24) lieferte dabei erstaunlich genaue Werte im Vergleich zum Referenzpunkt. Die Abweichung war absolut im Rahmen – mit der Genauigkeit bin ich daher sehr zufrieden.
Ein interessanter Cache, der einem wieder einmal bewusst macht, wie wichtig solche Referenzpunkte für die Kalibrierung sind. Vielen Dank fürs Herführen!

Bei unserem Besuch am Königssee haben wir natürlich auch den GPS-Referenzpunkt aufgesucht. Die Genauigkeit unseres Gerätes war passabel, siehe Foto. Gegenüber vom Referenzpunkt ist derzeit kein Parkplatz, sondern eine Baustelle. Danke an djti für den Virtual!

Am Sonntag den Königsee beuscht und dabei auch gleich diesen Cache gesucht.
Die GPS Messung meines Nokia Smartphones ist üebrraschend genau. Nur in der Höhe ist es "etwas" daneben.
