Mainzer Becken is the
term for a tertiary sea basin which took
the place of today’s Rheinhessen about 38 to 12 million years
ago. The Mainzer Becken forms a bay at the arm of the sea which
connected the northern sea whith the Tethyssea (southern sea) in
the tertiary.
Normally you have to turn into a wet suit, and then swept to the
bottom surface of the seabed, to find those things you can find
here along the way after a short search. There are fossil remnants
of former ocean dwellers, wich occured at the Wißberg millions of
years ago in the clear seawater. As so-called fossils they can be
found here on the roads through the rain from the soil and washed
out in places along the way. Here you will find two information Panels about the Shells. They
will help you to find the correct answers. First Panel at N49 51.139 E8 00.428 you will find several
Shovels. You are allowed to dig for some fossil Shells. Question 1: Tell me wich 4 kinds of Shell can be found ? Question 2: How old are the Horizons 2 - 4 ? The last task
is to take an Photo from the Horizon and your GPS. Send me your Answers to GC1WF1K@drhh.de
and I will give you
permit to LOG.
Got to the next Panel at N49 51.128 E8 00.442, you can see an
geologic Horizon.

Mein erster EarthCache auf OC ! 😃

Wer legt denn so tolle EC's? ;-) Die Antworten wusste ich sogar noch alle auswendig.
Vielen Dank für die Pflege, 😊
