Kamenjak – Dem Himmel ganz nah

🌄 About the Location

Kamenjak (also known as Straža) is the highest mountain on the island of Rab, reaching 408 meters above sea level. Just about 2.5 km as the crow flies from Rab Town, it offers a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view.

The mountain ridge separates the Lopar region from the rest of the island and can be reached in a variety of ways – on foot, by mountain bike, quad, motorbike, or even car (you can drive almost all the way to the top, though parking near the summit is limited – just follow the signs).

The mix of Mediterranean vegetation, rugged karst terrain, and sweeping views over the sea, Rab Town, surrounding islands like Cres, Lošinj, Krk, and Pag, and even the Velebit Mountains on the mainland make this route a true highlight of Rab. On very clear days, you might even spot the Učka Pass, Sis Peak on Cres, and southern islands such as Ugljan and Molat.

The hiking trail starts off in forested areas and later leads through open, rocky terrain. Depending on the route, you'll encounter both paved and gravel sections. There are two main paths to the summit, so a loop hike is possible. You could also continue your hike from Rab to Lopar for a full-day adventure.

There’s a mountain hut just below the summit where refreshments are available during the season – or you can bring your own picnic and enjoy the peaceful scenery and fantastic views.

📍 About the Cache

At the summit, you'll find not only some radio towers (partially a "lost place" for explorers), but also a summit stone and a small stone pyramid. Inside it is the logbook / summit book.
