About the Location

Rab Town is the historical and cultural heart of the island of the same name – and rightly considered one of the most beautiful old towns on the Croatian Adriatic. Its four distinctive bell towers, the Franciscan monastery, narrow alleys paved with light stone, the central square, and well-preserved medieval buildings all give the town a unique charm that blends history with Mediterranean ease.

The Romans already appreciated the place – Rab was granted city status in 10 BC by Emperor Augustus. Churches, city walls, and old patrician houses still tell stories of this long and rich past.

The old town lies picturesquely on a narrow peninsula, surrounded by small swimming bays, cozy cafés, quiet promenades, and shady spots to relax. A popular choice in many konobas (taverns) is the “catch of the day” – usually simple bycatch, but freshly prepared and often surprisingly delicious. And for those with a sweet tooth, the famous Rapska torta made with almonds and citrus is a must-try – a local delicacy with a centuries-old tradition.

In summer, Rab turns into a vibrant open-air stage: concerts, artisan markets, street musicians, and the historic town festival Rabska Fjera bring the old town to life – especially in the evening, when everything glows in a warm, golden light. On hot days, the many beaches nearby offer cooling off, most with designated swimming areas. Just a heads-up: in rocky areas, there are many sea urchins – water shoes are recommended!

Wandering the old town's alleys, enjoying the view from a bell tower, or simply watching the buzz of the promenade, it’s easy to see why Rab is considered a true gem of the Adriatic.
