Chiesa di San Martino

This is probably the first OpenCache on the island of Burano! 

The Church of San Martino is one of the highlights of the island. Before you look around this church, take a moment to let it sink in. Sit down and enjoy the silence and atmosphere, depending on the season you are there. A church is first and foremost a special place. Only gradually, once you have settled in, will you discover the details and the wonderful works of art.

Once you have settled in a little, it is a good idea to take a tour of the church. Here you will see a figure that you would not expect to find in such an old church, as it is more typical of our modern times. More specifically, it is a bronze statue of an elderly woman who is probably familiar to all of us today. She has her hands folded in prayer, and around her hands is a rosary. She did not work in Italy, but on another continent. The location is written on the plaque at the base of the statue.
