At entrance to Gdańsk from Pruszcz Gdański, by road No 1, in 1970's appeared "welcomers", concrete lions with Gdansk coat of arms.
These welcomers fascinated me since my childhood. In the past they meant long journey for me. I used to pass them during my very fist travel to Warsaw, and during my travel to Bydgoszcz, when dad took me there to buy a bike, which was a present for me at my confirmation. These beautiful concrete welcomers have starterd my fascination at Gdansk and my love to travel.
At present they are damaged and probably forgot by people. Gdansk incomers may think Gdansk does not take care about its symbol. Although one may see their beauty, it's seen concrete has rubbled and is pieces have fall down.
In 2009 Gdansk Municipality has promised to repair them in one year, unfortunettely nothing changed.
