Climbing Pidurangala Rock
The climb to the summit of Pidurangala Rock is more strenuous than the climb up Sigiriya Rock. So be warned and prepare accordingly. If you are fit and adventurous, this climb is worth it; It takes about two hours.
The Old Monastery
The Reclining Buddha of Pidurangala
A beautiful, 12.5-meter-long statue of a reclining Buddha is located in a shallow cave. It was once the largest brick Buddha statue in the world. The head and upper body of the statue were destroyed by treasure hunters in the 1960s but have since been reconstructed.
View from the summit of Pidurangala Rock
Once you reach the top of Pidurangala Rock, you are treated to a magnificent view, similar to the one from Sigiriya. Sigiriya rises majestically into view from almost every vantage point. You can even watch people making their way up to its summit. At the highest point of Pidurangala Rock lies a pile of rubble—the remains of a stupa.
