Lourdesgrotte

This easy cache is hidden near to the Lourdesgrotte in Maria Gugging.

The Lourdesgrotte near to the little village  Maria Gugging was inspired by Caspar Hutter. During a hike to the village Hadersfeld he had the idea to create a imitation of the wellknown Lourdes in france.  On 10th of may 1925  the Lourdesgrotte was consecrated by prelate Ignaz Seipel in the attendance of the later cardinal Innitzer. Approximately 60.000 persons  participated  in this celebration.

You can reach the cache area either by car or by public transport (bus line 239, bus station Lourdesgrotte). If you choose the car please do not use the parking lot of the nearby pub, a public parking lot is situated at the coordinates N 48°19.132 ; E016°14.305. For those of you who don't like Drive In - Caches it is possible to combine the caching with a little hiking tour. There are some hiking paths, leading to the Lourdesgrotte.

A little remark (especially for those of you, who try to find the cache without a GPSr): The cache is not hidden in the Lourdesgrotte itself, but in the surroundings (wood). Please do not disturb any religious celebration!
