Description    Deutsch  ·  English

A nice walk starting out from Z. You may go to X by car, too.

Those who like sweets will enjoy a visit to 50° 43,299' N 8° 51,209' E (open 9:30 am to 5:00 pm, on saturdays 9 am to 1 pm). Find out the name of the street and the position of its first letter in the alphabet. This is X.

At 50° 42,805' N 8° 51,340' E you stand on a historical site. There is a map near this position whre you can find out the german name for it. Again the position of the first letter of that word (in the alphabet) gives you a number: Y.

At 50° 41,549' N 8° 50,568' E you find yourself in front of a castle. Where is the chapel of the castle? Near its entrance there is a bronze table with a list of names (men who died in WW II). How many names ? This is Z.

The final cache is hidden at:
50° 4a,bca' N 8° 5d,ecd' E

X:2=a
c=d+e-2a
10d+e=Y:2
Z=a^2*b

Today I checked the cache as it has not received any visitor during the last 160 days. Unfortunately, the cache box was lying outside of the hollow tree stump which served as hideout. Apparently an animal is using the stump as "sleeping room". The wrapping plastic bag has some biting traces, but the box and its contents were nevertheless in good condition.
For the reasons outlined above, I decided to archive this cache permanently.

Already when this cache showed up, I was hoping to be able to visit it once. I have been before at the first and near the final stage of the cache. I appreciate all places to which this cache leads, of course for different reasons .

The shop at Stage 1 was closed today (Sunday), so we could neither taste nor buy some of delicious cookies and other products which are offered there. As a compensation Alice found very tasteful raspberries near the final stage which apparently have been overlooked by the previous finders who visited the cache in the evening when it was already dark. Unlike the previous finders, we did not meet any mosquitoes. (I had to ask Alice for the meaning of the word 'Schnake' which is not used in Austria. Using English has indeed quite a number of advantages.) All in all, there are several reasons for refraining to do this cache in the night.

I found the cache at the first place at which I looked. It was not as well hidden as Alice had hidden it. Please take care to return the camouflage material to the place where you found it. I made an effort to restore the original situation.

I really enjoyed this cache. I also liked the way the coordinates of the final stage are to be determined. Being a mathematician, I do not like those boring calculations occuring in so many caches which involve large numbers and where one just needs to act as a pocket calculator or to use one. This cache can be easily done without any electronic device . Thanks, Alice, for this nice idea which is very Cezanne-friendly. Contrary to what is claimed by the previous finders, no trick is needed. The given system of equations does have a unique solution.

Found 26 March 2003 safri found the geocache
