Nature reserve Krossanesborgir

The nature reserve area Krossanesborgir slightly outside of Akureyri is formed by basalt hills, between those moors and ponds have formed. In summer about one third of all bird species living in Iceland nist here.

Along of an approximately 3 km long round hiking path you'll find a number of bilingual information tables. In the northern part at the listing coordinates there's a hut from where you can watch birds at the largest pond. Some nice views on the fjord are there, too,

Your tasks:

To log this virtual cache, you need to visit the hut. There you need to take a photo and find out a password.

The hut has a guestbook. This means, you can log your visit physically if you like. The guestbook, however, has nothing to do with geocaching, and I'm not sure whether it's always there, so this is still a virtual - and signing the guestbook is not required.

1) Photo:

Either sign the guestbook and take a photo of your entry.

Or take a photo looking through one of the huts windows, preferrably with your GPS or some other personal item as a proof that you have been there. if the hut is locked, take a photo of the hut.

2) Password:

On the back wall of the hut, besides the entrance, there's a poster with pictures of birds nesting here. Password is the latin name of the first bird in the upper left corner, spelled just exactly the same as on the poster (i.e. two words, first letter of the first word uppercase and all other letters lowercase, e.g. "Larus fuscus").

You need to enter the password in the appropriate field when logging your visit. Append the photo to your log afterwards. For group visits, it's sufficient if one participant uploads a photo.

If there is a problem with the password (poster missing, hut locked, or you simply lost the slip of paper you wrote it on), log a "note". You don't need the password for this. If everything is ok, I'll send you the password.

If you like, upload more photos of the surroundings. Just please don't upload a photo of the poster with the password.

Two more notes:

- This is a nature reserve area. Keep on the paths.

- Only visits in April 2018 or later may be logged. No retroactive logging of earlier visits.

Getting there:

By car: There's an official parking place at the southern end, see additional waypoints. From there partly gravel hiking paths lead to the hut.

By bus: The free-of-charge city bus of Akureyri takes you to the bus stop "Miðsíða" (see additional waypoints). From the bus stop walk to the parking place first and enter the reserve there.
