Description    Deutsch  ·  English

A little walk in Koblenz-Luetzel. The total distance (including the way back to the starting point) is less than 3 kilometers (2 miles). Except for the final, all stages can be reached by streets and paved paths. In order to retrieve the cache, you will have to climb a bit, but no special equipment is required.

1. Stage

You start in the "Luetzelhof" at N 50°21.971' E 007°35.729'. This area was built in 1912 and consisted of a 14 single buildings which were grouped around one open and one closed courtyard. All flats were spacious and had their own bathroom, which was very modern by the standards of the time. Today only the buildings number 2 and 3 and three artistic courtyard entrances are preserved in their original style. (Source: Wikipedia)

We are interested in the entrances to the courtyards. A relief shows a sitting warrior with an ax. How many stars do you count on this relief? The number of stars becomes A.

2. Stage

Close by, at N 50°21.9[A+1][A-3]' E 007°35.6[A-2][A+1]', you find the "Maifelder Hof". It was built in 1906 and is one of the distinctive landmarks of Luetzel nowadays. (Source: Wikipedia) A number of signs attached to the building carry the inscription "... Strasse B-C".

Now head south-west down to the Moselle river. Walk up the river below "Balduinbruecke" (Balduin Bridge). Turn right after the next (railroad-) bridge, cross the dam and go to the

3. Stage

The military requirements of "Feste Franz" (Fortress Franz) imposed restrictions on the way how buildings could be constructed. An example for the typical light "Rayon" construction style you find at N 50°22.0[2*A+B]2' E 007°35.3[3*C-1]B'. (Source: Wikipedia) Building number 1 has "Anno 18DE" inscribed. Now head for the cache!

Cache

The cache is hidden at N 50°22.1[D-C][D/2]' E 007°35.3[E/2][D-E]'. The high terrain rating is based on this stage – so don't even start searching at the roots of trees. Please be careful and make sure that the box does not get stuck when you retrieve/re-hide it!

Happy hunting!

Weiter geht's! :-)
