This Cache was placed at the decayed monastery "Agía Ekateríni" (or "Ayía Aikateríni"), near the northeast cape of Corfu.
The location is in the forest on the island "Nissos", that is bordered by the lagoon lake "Antiniótis" in the south and its inflows on eastern and western side. The Antinióti-lagoon is a valuable biotope and paradise for birds with an interesting flora and fauna.
The monastery named after "St. Catherine" dates from 1713 and is not open to the public. Nevertheless there is an open entrace at the given Waypoint on the western side. Inside you find ruinous remains of the buildings, the decoratet entrance of the church and an overgrown olive mill. Be careful as always in lost places! Dont't miss to climb the stairs of the "tower" in the north-west corner of the monastery (accessible from outside) and enjoy the view from there!
You can reach the location by car/scooter only from Ágios Spirídonas (from East). Park your vehicle at the roadside near the monastery. From Acharávi (from West) the island is only accessible by bike or by foot.

vom westen bin ich heute zu fuß hierher gekommen.
den cache konnte ich schnell finden , aber leider war hier alles so zugewachsen das ich nicht mehr versucht habe ins innere vorzustoßen.

Very nice cache (directly below a hornets' nest, which in turn is directly below a bee hive - but the distance was far enough, so they didn't feel threatened 🙂)

This year, Fl0ydt and I chose Corfu as destination for our summer holiday. (Well, truth be told, it was me in the first place and Fl0ydt only managed to tag along through happy circumstances.) We'd decided to spite my knee trouble and our lack of long-distance hiking experience and try to walk the Corfu Trail, lugging the full monty - tent and all - across the whole island. After ten days and many, many kilometres filled with picturesqueness, peals of laughter and, yes, large amounts of pain, we managed to lay our hands on the walls of the church in Agios Spiridon, filled with lots of happy experiences, pride and the perhaps all too delible conviction of never going to such arduous lengths again.
We were closing in our final destination at this point, but the little detour had to be made - after all, there aren't too many caches to find on Corfu. The hideaway was spotted straightaway.

dieser Log wurde auf Englisch verfasst, weil mir das Spaß macht und weil Geocaching ein internationales Hobby ist, dem auch Leute frönen, die des Deutschen nicht mächtig sind und die sich - ebenso wie ich, wenn ich ins Ausland fahre - freuen, wenn ihnen ein englischsprachiger Log hilft zu entscheiden, ob sie einen Cache angehen sollen oder nicht.
