Altenberger Dom

The Altenberg Cathedral in Odenthal-Altenberg was built between the 12th und 14th centuries by the Cistercians in Gothic style and was originelly the monastery church of a Cisterian abbey. The cathedral was considered early as an important pilgrimage destination. The monastery was destroyed by fire in 1815 and the church was badly damaged. A decree of the Prussian King Friedich Wilhelm IV. caused the common use as a Catholic and Protestant church. This condition was linked to the granting of funds for the restoration of the place of worship. In particular, since the foundation of the Altenberg Cathedral Association by Maria Zanders in 1894, the cathedral was gradually restored. Next to the interior of the church is the large west window, which is the largest Gothic church window north the Alpes.

Go to the above mentioned coordinates and find a model of the Altenberg Cathedral with its adjoining monastery and other buildings such as the Altenberger Hof. The bronze sculpture was created as a tactile model for the blind and sighted people by Soester sculptor Egbert Broerken.

1) Take a closer look at the cathedral model and find the second term standing on the floor on the north side of the church.
