Mdina - die alte Hauptstadt - the old capital

Before Valletta was declared as capital of Malta in 1571, Mdina was the capital for centuries, mainly because of the good strategic position on top of a hill. History of this city already begun in bronze age and was later affected by Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs and Hospitallers.

Malta as an island was difficult to rule from heartland. That's why Mdina lost its status as capital to Valletta in 16th century. Since that time Mdina is the "silent city". But it could preserve its medieval flair, which is characterized by narrow streets, as well palaces and churches built of sandstone colored limestone. (source: wikipedia.de)

Regarding the cache:
To log this cache you have to fulfill two tasks:

Go to the city entrance and make a picture of you, your GPS or one of your belongings in front of the main gates. Attach it to your log entry. (Of course you may add more pictures of the beautiful city. :).

You can find the nine-letter log password on the information board which is located on the right hand side of the stone bridge. Search the city walls for the artist who wrote his name and the year there. The nine letters of the name are the log password.
