The "Fonte di Lucullo" (literally Lucullus' Spring) is still one of the preferred places for local people. Even if the place is sadly almost abandoned, the mineral water that comes from the spring is renowned for its quality and it is known for its properties.

The spring is located inside a home made cave that has been dated at the end of the I century a.C., during the reign of emperor Domitian and it was discovered by Pietro Cardinale, as noted on the plaque inside the cave.
It was originally known as the "Bagnara", and the current name is connected with the Roman patrician Lucius Licinto Lucullus that during the 1 century BC supported the construction of a magnificent hydraulic engineering work. It was a large tank divided into four sections, used as a fish pond. The architect, Gnaeus Domitius Amandus, wanted to build two separate springs, one used for drinkable, the other one, not as clean, used for thermal installation.

When has the spring been discovered?

A photo of you (or your nickname) in front of the spring is much appreciated.
