Description    Deutsch  ·  English  ·  Français

The Rötifluh, or nowadays simply Röti, is the highest point of the Weissenstein ridge. From here, you often get amazing views.

As early as 1795, Johann Baptist Altermatt from Solothurn calculated his map from here. The Federal Office of Topography adopted this – now you'll find one of their survey markers here. Go check it out closer 🥸.

The big black triangle is used to take bearings from other locations and then calculate your own position precisely. Just like our devices do with satellites, only within line of sight.

The Cache

As a replacement for the disappeared can cache, I've hidden another NFC cache here. This one does require some climbing skill though and isn't entirely without risk. You don't need climbing gear though.

NFC Cache

This cache is an NFC cache. NFC stands for "Near Field Communication" and describes wireless tech over a very short distance (normally a few centimetres). At the coordinates you'll find an NFC tag instead of a container. It's a small sticker with a microchip and antenna inside. You can interact with the tag using an NFC-compatible device. Most current smartphones have this capability. You bring your phone close to the tag, it gets powered from your device and a quick data exchange happens.
More details on NFC can be found, e.g., on Wikipedia.

Logging this NFC Cache

With this NFC cache, the logging password is stored on the NFC tag. Once you have it, you can log the cache online. No need to sign in on site. Attach a personal photo from up here on the Röti to your online log.

App

If you're using an Android device, I recommend the app NFC Tool for this cache. Various other NFC apps work too. Just make sure they can read not only links (web addresses) but also text fields – that's where the password's easier to find.

And now

Have lots of fun climbing to the highest point of the Weissenstein.
