Oberhavel

At the given coordinates you will have a nice view over the river Oberhavel. The cache is situated at a walking track along the river between a car ferry and a popular beach with the silly name "Bürgerablage" (which in translation would mean "lay down citizens").

When you enjoyed the view to some fine nature then just turn around to see the former power station "Oberhavel".

The site was built in the beginning of the last century, was badly destroyed during World War II and opened again in 1961 by the former mayor of Berlin, Willy Brand. The local workers used to call it "power station sunshine" because of the nice location and the cosy atmosphere. The workers went to "Oberhavel" by their own ferry and it was not unusual to enjoy the sun at the shore not only before the shift began...

After West-Berlin was integrated in the european network of power supply, the quite small power station lost its right to exist. In december 2001 it was switched off with a symbolic "last shovel of coal" but was kept as a so called cold reserve. 2005 it was begun to dismantle the machines and tear down some halls. The visions for the future use of the buildings spread from luxory appartments to a skiing and climbing resort.

Since 1998 the bicycle trail from Berlin to Copenhagen passes this location so that it is possbible to solve the cache as a drive-in for bikers.
