Frauenkirche

The first SSV-Cache leads you to the "Frauenkirche" (Cathedral of Our Dear Lady)in the historic center of Munich. It serves as the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and seat of its Archbishop.
The Late Gothic brick building is 109 metres (358 ft) long, 40 metres (130 ft) wide, and 37 metres (121 ft) high.

The south tower is open to those wishing to climb the stairs and offers a unique view of Munich and the nearby Alps.

The cathedral can hold approximately 20,000 people, this is surprising when one considers that at end of the 15th Century the city only had about 13,000 inhabitants

Around the church are many epitaphs (grave plates) placed. They remember to the cemetery, which surrounded the church. For reasons of hygiene the cemetery should be moved, but several times, citizens successfully resist against that. 1800 the cemetary was paved. On the wall the preserved stone epitaphs of the wealthier citizens are attached. Some of them are decorated figurative, some texts are almost no longer legible. After numerous epitaphs has been damaged and destroyed by weathering and war, now there are still 115 stones on the outside walls. Some are placed inside the church.

The Cache

To log this virtual cache you need a password that you'll have to consist of informations from the outer wall of the church.

1. At the cache-coordinates you find a metal plaque with informations about the rehabilitation of the 120 grave plates. Notice the lowest / last word on the plaque.


2. At N 48 08 307 E 011 34 471 (next to the gutter) you will find a grave plate by Sebastian Reitter von Hallenburg. In the first line is a date (years) in Roman format. Remember, this number.


You can build the logging-password as follows: "word-year" (eg. LAERCHE-MMX).

Only capitals and change umlauts (eg. Ä->AE)
