Acest cache este dedicat țestoasei lui Hermann (Testudo Hermanni), sau mai precis subspeciei estice Testudo Hermanni boettgeri. Testudo Hermanni boettgeri este endemică în Europa de Sud-Est, Sudul României fiind cel mai nordic habitat cunoscut.
Datorită distrugerii continue a habitatului său, țestoasa lui Hermann este considerată o specie pe cale de dispariție și este înregistrată în anexa II la "Convenția privind Comerțul Internațional cu Specii Periclitate de Faună și Floră Salbatică" (CITES), mai cunoscută sub numele de Convenția de la Washington. Ca urmare, comerțul cu țestoasa lui Hermann este strict reglementat, acesta este permis numai pentru animalele certificate ca fiind crescute în captivitate. Astfel s-a stopat în esență, colectarea sistematică de broaște țestoase pentru export în țările din Europa Centrală și de Nord și s-a eliminat o amenințare serioasă la continuitatea existenței speciei.
Diferite țări, inclusiv România, fac eforturi de conservare a țestoasei lui Hermann. Cache-ul este situat la Centrul de monitorizare a habitatelor și speciilor (CMHS), care este dedicat atât conservării cît și cercetării speciei în habitatul său natural. Centrul găzduiește o stație de salvare și de reproducere pentru țestoasa lui Hermann.
Cache-ul este plasat cu autorizația CMHS.

This cache is dedicated to Hermann's Tortoise (Testudo Hermanni), or more precisely the subspecies Eastern Hermann's Tortoise (Testudo Hermanni Boettgeri). Testudo Hermanni Boettgeri is endemic to south-eastern Europe, with the south of Romania being its northernmost habitat.
Due to continuous destruction of its habitat, Hermann's Tortoise is considered endangered and listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), also known as the Washington Convention. As a result, the trade of Hermann's Tortoise is strictly regulated and only allowed for certified animals bred in captivity. This essentially stopped the systematic collection of the tortoises for export to central- and northern European countries and removed a serious threat to the existence of the species.
Conservation efforts are made in various countries, including Romania. The cache is located at the Centre for Monitoring of Habitats and Species (Centrul de Monitorizare a Habitatelor si Speciilor), which is dedicated to both conservation and research, and houses a rescue and breeding station for Hermann's Tortoise.
The cache is placed with the authorisation of the centre.

german (long): Bitte bei Statusänderungen, die auf geocaching.com durchgeführt werden, auch immer hier den Status ändern. Dieser Cache ist auf geocaching.com (GC4KMQH) archiviert und hier nicht mit dem Attribut "OC only" versehen. Das letzte Funddatum liegt lange zurück und die Logs auf geocaching.com lassen darauf schließen, dass der Cache nicht mehr vorhanden ist. Aus diesem Grunde archiviere ich ihn auch hier. Sollte später die Dose erneuert werden, so kann dieses Listing selbständig über ein "kann gesucht werden"-Log reaktiviert werden.
