Stonehenge is probably the most important prehistoric monument in the
whole of Britain and has attracted visitors from earliest times.

- age estimated at 3100 BC
- type of stone: Bluestone, Sarsen, Welsh Sandstone

Stonehenge was constructed in three phases

It has been estimated that the three phases of the construction required more than thirty million hours of labour.

Speculation on the reason it was built range from human sacrifice to astronomy.

Stonehenge

The Heel Stone marks the original access to Stonehenge. It shows from the center the direction of the sunrise at the time of the summer sunrise.
Heelstone, Slaughter Stone and the center of the circle lie on one axis.

Answer the questions to log this cache :

  1. Describe how the greatest stone in the circle looks like.

  2. Guess how far is the Heel Stone away from the actual circle.

  3. Find the sacrificial stone (Slaughter Stone) outside the circle. Is the red spot actually blood? What do you think? (Google)

I arrived at the visitor center, and walked all the way to the stones, a long long way across fields and graves.

But i did it and finally got to Stonehenge. Always wanted to visit them.

Great and touching place. ( even with all this tourists Zunge raus)

Came in by foot from visitor car park. Long walk in ill fitting shoes, made me grumpy. But several ECs and Virtuals and an old trad made me happy. Answers sent.
