Qal'at Salah ed-Din
The Castle of Saladin is an impressive castle in Al-Haffah, Syria. It is situated on a ridge between two deep ravines and during its long history, the owners changed from the Byzantine Empire to crusaders and later to Saladin. The castle is fortified since at least the 10th century and the first known occupant was Sayf al-Dawla. The castle is one of the best I have been to and definately should not be missed when you're in the area.
The Cache is hidden inside a hole in the wall at a viewpoint on the other side of the ridge where the castle sits. The location used to be part of a restaurant before the buildings here were completely robbed or destroyed in the syrian civil war. I hope that this will soon be a bigger tourist destination again so that a restaurant can maybe reopen at this location. When I have visited the location in 2022, we were the only visitors at this wonderful castle.
