Descripción Deutsch · English (Inglés)
We call this second well of our collection the "Colonial Fountain". We do not know whether this is its real name, but We are sure that some of our loggers will tell us quite quickly.
Next to the well there is a monument with the inscription "in rememberance of the 40 jears of German colonial history".
This is a bit surprising when you recall two hallmarks of German history: 1) The German colonial history started at April 24th in 1884, when Chancellor Bismarck granted the protection of the Deutsches Reich to the Lüderitz-Bucht in the later Namibia.2) Some 35 years later on June 26th 1919 as part of the treaty of Versailles, Germany had to surrender all its colonies to the winners of the World War.
Disregarding these small details, for some Germans the Colonial History did not end by that day. So the "Deutsche Kolonialgesellschaft" ("German Colonial Society") errected this monument of rememberance on April 24th in 1924.
In fact the society did exsisted much longer. And a little smile arises, when reading the name of its vicepresisent 1931-1933, which was Konrad Adenauer, the first chancellor of the Bundesrepublik Deutschland.
By the way: You can read all these facts (in German) at http://www.namibiana.de/Photos/htm/beitraege/schmiedel_ein_kolonialdenkmal.pdf
The well is not very reliable and spends only little water. The water does not taste very well, but it's good enough for cleaning dishes.
It is located in a dangerous U-turn. There is a playground and grilling place for families protected by a metal fence next to the well.
You can park your car 60m away at N 49° 23.394' E 8° 42.297' and walk under "danger of life " along the street to N 49° 23.422' E 8° 42.233'. It is a micro, so please bring a pen.
This series of wells has a bonus cache which you can only find when you answer one question for each of the other six wells. For getting the co-ordinates, you have to combine the answers properly.
For the
bonus cache ( https://www.opencaching.de/viewcache.php?wp=OC829F ) you need to know:
How many leaves can be counted at the holder of the fountain pipe? X2=ef
