The former castle Statteneck (now Katzenstein) was build 1278 without the grant of the Styrian duke. Beside this, the Goldegger which build the castle, was minions of the duke archbishop of Salzburg, but the Castle was built on the territory of Styria (Habsburg). So troubles was programmed and the castle was finally burned down in 1288 through the duke archbishop of Salzburg. After the final solution in 1298, a court decision, the castle was never rebuild.
You enter the ruin (normally) from west and see first a 8m hill. This Hill was the former main building of the castle (15x15m), a second building was eastwards heading the valley point, which was smaller (12x7m). The courtyard was bigger as you can see now, because the north front slopes down.

Das letzte Funddatum liegt lange zurück und die Logs auf geocaching.com (GC1XQ4C) lassen darauf schließen, das der Cache nicht mehr zu finden ist. Aus diesem Grunde archiviere ich ihn auch hier. Sollten sich später neue Aspekte ergeben, so kann dieses Listing durch den Owner selbständig über ein "kann gesucht werden"-Log reaktiviert werden.

Unser erster Cache im diesjährigen Urlaub. Letztes Jahr haben wir diesen nicht besucht, da zu viel Schnee lag. Dieses Jahr haben wir uns hingetraut und wir haben nicht schlecht gestaut so etwas zu finden. Vielen Dank fürs herführen.

Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum 5. Geburtstag Mopi III
Kein spektakulärer, aber ein sehr altehrwürdiger Ort, wenn man bedenkt das das Gemäuer hier schon über 700 Jahre verlassen steht. Schöner Spaziergang. TFTC

Hier waren wir früher schon einmal. Dieses Mal haben wir 2 Dosen entdeckt und beide signiert.

Mit geübtem Cacherblick ein schneller Fund. Die Ruine ist etwas mickrig, war aber vermutlich sicher einmal eine imposante Burg.
