Earthcache "GORNER GORGE"

 Welcome to Zermatt, at the bottom of the Matterhorn at the canton Wallis, in the
 beautifull south of Switzerland. Visit the Gorner gorge and experience what thousands
 of years have created in one day. Move out into another world and gaze at the craggy
 rocks in different multifarious forms and colours.

 Willkommen in Zermatt, am Fusse des Matterhorns, im Kanton Wallis, im schönen Süden
 der Schweiz. Besuchen sie die Gorner Schlucht und erleben Sie an einem Tag,
 was in tausenden von Jahren erschaffen wurde. Tauchen Sie in eine andere Welt ein
 und bestaunen sie die zerklüftete Felswelt, Gesteinsformen und -farben.

 From Zermatt go to "N 46° 00.640 E 007° 44.355" and follow the signs to the gorge.
 At the entrance of the gorge you will have to pay 4 CFR for each adult and 2 CFR for each
 kid. After you’ve paid the entrance fee you can pass the beautiful gorge and go the info
 sign and the earth cache. Another way to the info sign is shown at "N 46° 00.080
 E 007° 44.230"
 From here you can reach the info sign without a need to pay and you’re able to have a
 quick look into the depth of the gorge. If you pass the gorge you will come to the
 entrance where you need to pay the entrance fee. Passing the gorge takes around 15
 min. and is really worth seeing.

 Geht von Zermatt zu "N 46° 00.640 E 007° 44.355" und folgt der Ausschilderung zur
 Schlucht. Am Eingang der Schlucht müsst Ihr 4 CFR für jeden Erwachsen und 2 CFR für
 jedes Kind  Eintritt zahlen. Danach könnt Ihr durch die wunderschöne Schlucht zur Infotafel
 der Schlucht und des Earthcaches gehen. Ein weiterer Zugang zur Infotafel befindet
 sich bei "N 46° 00.080 E 007° 44.230". Von hier aus könnt Ihr die Infotafel kostenfrei
 erreichen und wenige Meter tiefer einen Blick in die Schlucht werfen.
 Folgt Ihr dem Weg, kommt ihr zum Eingang, bei welchem Eintritt zu zahlen ist.
 Die Durchquerung der Schlucht dauert etwa 15 min und ist zu empfehlen.

 The gorge was created by an erosion after the last Ice Age and was shaped by the
 Gornera over thousands of years and its looks are with bizarre shapes and spectacular
 waterfalls. The rock belongs to a dense black green transformation product of Periodit.

 Die Schlucht ist durch Auswaschungen nach der letzten Eiszeit entstanden und wurde
 von der Gornera über Jahrtausende geformt und zeichnet sich durch bizarre Formen und
 spektakuläre Wasserfälle aus. Bei dem Gestein handelt es sich um ein grünschwarzes
 Umwandlungsprodukt von Periodit.

 The path through the canyon was created 1886/87 by the brothers Joseph and Elias
 Lauber and the brothers Joseph and Gabriel Taugwalder. This passage was assigned to
 them by the municipality of Zermatt. In return they had to invite the whole community
 to a snack. In building the way through the canyon natural methods were devised and
 natural materials found in the region were used. Explosions, tunnels etc. were
 deliberately avoided.

 Der Weg durch die Gornerschlucht wurde 1886/87 durch die Gebrüder Lauber
 und Taugwalder erstellt. Das Zugangsrecht hat ihnen die Gemeinde für einen Einladung
 zu einem Imbiss aller Bürger Zermatts abgetreten. Der Weg wurde naturnah,
 entlang der Felsen geführt und auf Sprengungen und Tunnel wurde bewusst versichtet.
 Für den Bau, wurden bevorzugt Materialien aus der Umgebung verwendet.

 Aufgabe: Mach ein Bild von Dir selbst mit Deinem GPS, so das Du und die Schlucht auf
 dem Bild eindeutig zu erkennen sind und beantworte folgende Fragen:

 Frage 1: Wie heisst das grünschwarze Gestein?

 Frage 2: Wie alt ist der Periodit?

 Frage 3: Vor wieviel Jahren entstand die Schlucht?
