The Black Mesa Experimental Station
unauthorized research

The Facility
The Black Mesa Research Facility was a private research and defence contractor comprised of a massive complex built within Phillip Bay just off the coast of Melbourne. Built deep into the bottom of the ocean, Black Mesa has been a site for broad scientific research relating to theoretical, quantum, and particle physics, applied mathematics, robotics, genetics, biotechnology, trans-dimensional travel, teleporting, and other classified subjects.

The submerged character of Black Mesa is due to the shielding nature of vast amount of water on top of it. Although it being close to a major metropolitan area, it always was considered to be one of the safest facilities on this planet ... until the Black Mesa Incident a few days ago.

The Incident
A few days ago the Black Mesa has been rendered inert by a catastrophic failure of the lambda-experiment. An uncontrolled trans-dimensional portal opened together with a secondary much smaller portal. Both of them could be closed however the secondary portal stayed open for a few hours.

During that time-frame some unknown artefacts slipped through the portal and found their way into the bay. The lambda satellite discovered the seven items while still afloat and fortunately we were able to take them out one by one.
However measurements revealed that not all artefacts where of Xen-origin. One of them was - despite the same design - man-made. That means somebody crossed over to Xen before Black Mesa became operational. This poses a serious threat we have to investigate since we don't what else might come towards us. We could recalibrate the lambda satellite and trace the origin of that artefact. This time we got a crystal-clear reading: S 37° 50.773 E 145° 00.217

Make your way to the eastern subs and do some recon. We don't know whether this station is classified and somebody forgot to tell us or if it has been set-up by someone completely unrelated to Black Mesa. The second case would be another disaster which has to be contained. Our analyst indicated that you might not find the experimental station itself but a still very valuable relay station. In any case we will have an answer in a few hours - try to pinpoint the exact location and retrieve as much data as you can.

Find that station!

(The Hunt)
This is NOT a nightcache but you do need a torch. It's not difficult to get to GZ but it is quite a challenge to reach the cache. You DO NOT have to

  • Lift or move any objects

  • Climb fences

  • Walk through gates or doors

  • Step on any roads

  • Go near any railway-tracks

However at GZ is a chirp which gives you a hint. Once you've figured out how to reach the cache, you'll need a UV-torch go proceed (well you don't need it but it makes live easier). And remember: Think before you start your trip - If you don't you might die!

One more thing: Please do not post any, not even the slightest, spoiler and do not post any pictures with your log. In fact I'd really appreciate it if you could only log a "I liked it' or "I didn't like it". You'll see why this cache is more fun when you don't know what is coming. Thanks.

Enjoy *gg*

This Cache has been placed in compliance with the Morsix rules:

  • Is the location of particular interest? (location, culture, architecture, landscape, ...)
  • Is it a challenge to get to the cache-box? (and that doesn't mean the next high-muggle location)
  • Does it have an innovative camouflage, twist or idea? (a micro is not a twist - it's not even a real cache)
  • Or is it exciting? (night-cache, electronic features, wherigo with a good story, ...)

Only if you can answer at least one question with yes, place the cache. If not, just let it be.

Hinweis 10.
