The Eltviller salt spring

In the Rhinegau salty water steps only at few places to the earth's surface.

In the health resort inhabitant of Mainz time till 1803 the sovereigns were strongly interested in the production by cooking salt in your Highness's areas.
An expert examined 1654/55 for the first time the Eltviller salt spring and ascertained which she contains though cooking salt, but not to be developed "erratically" and therefore "solemnly".
In the Sülzbachtal behind Eltville the prerau's settlements were actually not at all bad, because there was enough fire wood for boiling the salt. The use of the spring failed only because of her low Ergibigkeit and her weak salt concentration.
For comparison: The Eltviller salt spring has a salinity of 0.82 percent, while, for example, the sole contains 2.7 percent of salt in bath Home Nau.

In in the 1970s from concrete blocks made source version it was complained that this allows "to the stroller only under dislocations to refresh himself in the spring".
In the years 1997/98 a reorganisation of the spring was reached, finally. This Renaturierung beinhaltete above all a removal of the concrete version as well as the exchange of the former Verrohrung by a natural expiry of the source water with a hollow and light slope in the brook Sülz.

Today salt-loving plants (Halophyten), as for example the knot-flower celery settle below the source version again
(Apium nodiflorum).

The Eltviller spring is biggest of her kind in the Rhinegau and, hence, something special.
The source water has a salinity of about 8 g / l and a temperature staying the same all year round of from about 14 to 15°C.

Though the temperature of the mineral water is not enough for the predicate "thermal water", and also the content in carbon dioxide is too low for the name "Säuerling". However, the content of the spring is in cooking salt of quite special interest. Neither in the whole sphere nor in the subsoil kochsalzführende rocks are known because. Next ones proved salt beds are to be found only in the space Fulda as well as near Worms and on the Neckar. Though it would not be to be excluded that the cooking salt comes from sole waters which the sea of the "Mainz washbasin" left which reached, as everybody knows, once up to Taunus., Among the rest, the newer evaluation of mineral water analyses makes it, however, likely that the sole from the south streams along. From the salt occurence near Worms which comes from the Tertiärzeit the sole water on gaps and columns walks to the north and reaches in the Taunusrand locally, like with Eltville, Kiedrich and Assmannshausen, to the surface.

Please, enter the spring only on the given way and take no plants. Because the water is not examined according to the regulations for drinking water, it may not be drunk.

Found 20 April 2013 following found the geocache

Stirnrunzelnd
