Eine sehr große Dose

Während der Rest der Truppe die Pferde im benachbarten Reitstall besuchte mal schnell nachgeschaut ob nicht vielleicht ein Cache in der Nähe versteckt war. Und siehe da, es gab einen. Mal kurz beim Alpengarten reingeschaut und dann gleich weiter zum Versteck. Schnell gefunden

Als mein erster Mountainbike-Cache wars dank genauer Koordinaten und eindeutigem Hint ein schneller Fund. Leider blieb es für heute bei einem Fund...

Das nächste Mal werden wir im Frühjahr oder Sommer kommen. Diesmal fanden wir keine Pflanzen, aber wenigstens ein Doserl. Schöne Gegend!

Nach der Arbeit bin ich heute mit dem Motorrad zu diesem Cache aufgebrochen. Durch punktgenaue Koordinaten und den Hint, war der Cache schnell gefunden, und so blieb Zeit für einen kurzen Spaziergang.

Eine ausgesprochen schöne Gegend da oben!

Hab die Drive-In-Variante gewählt, denn es war schon fast 18 Uhr und es mußten anschließend noch Geierkogel und Kalkleiten heimgesucht werden.

Bin heute nach der Arbeit noch schnell zu diesem Cache gefahren, da er fast auf meinem Heimweg liegt. Das Finden stellte kein Problem dar, eher die Dose zu bergen und wieder zu verstecken...

Heute gemeinsam mit RandomTox am Weg zum Punktegeier hier vorbeigeradelt.
Es ist noch etwas zu früh für den Alpengarten, es blüht noch nicht allzu viel.
In ein paar Wochen dürfte es richtig bunt werden!

Dies war der zweite "Schatz", den ich zusammen mit einem guten Freund und dessen Sohn an einem sonnigen Tag gehoben habe.

Leider war der Alpengarten geschlossen - laut einem Infozettel der Gemeinde Stattegg wird ein neuer Pächter für das GH Alpengarten gesucht.

Die Dose war rasch gefunden und ist in gutem Zustand.

heute wollten wir die letzten sonnenstrahlen genießen, jedoch war das wetter uns nicht gnädig. darum sind wir bis zum cache mit dem auto gefahren.

Nach einer sehr schönen kleinen Wanderung über den Geierkogel zusammen mit Christine gefunden, da sie eine waschechte "Rannacherin" ist hat sie mir einige schöne Wege gezeigt.

Disclaimer: This log is just my personal way of keeping track of my geocaching activities and *does not* criticize the cache.

When this cache showed up, I was a bit disappointed. I very much like the small alpine botanical garden, but I would have preferred a multi cache which cannot be done in the way "drive there by car, walk a few meters, get the cache, get back to the car or to a restaurant, drive home ...".

The alpine garden is well-known to me - I have visited it many times, at various times of the year. The period which is mentioned in the cache description, is indeed one of the most attractive ones. I like the garden a lot - the only problem is that it happens from time to time that the garden is closed on a short notice. It was closed also today - according to a sign "due to illness". Several people who had come up from St Veit by car, looked quite disappointed. I did not mind that much as I know the garden well and did not come up to have a meal in the restaurant.

Up to now, I always approached the alpine garden from St Veit as I am Graz-based and not Gratkorn-based. Today I took the approach which is recommended in the cache description. Without the information provided there, it would not have came to my mind to approach this cache from Dult. I went by bike from the Gratkorn park cache to the location where the hiking path number 1 leaves the street. On my way I also passed the monastery in Dult for the first time and realized that I do not know which order takes care of this monastery. (I will need to look up some information in the internet.)

I guess that the placed where I started my walk is also the location which is suggested by gustus as parking location, but I did not check (GPS not yet switched on). In any case, to my surprise parking is explicitly allowed at this location although the area looks quite private. As my bike is not suitable for riding it in the forest and since my level of fitness (or rather level of non-fitness) is too bad to manage the ascent to the garden without need to push my bike anyway, I decided to leave my bike at the start of the hiking trail and continued on foot.

I enjoyed the walk very much. Thank you for showing me a nice path I have never used before. After about 35 minutes I arrived at the alpine garden. The reception in the target area was bad and my GPS showed a very jumpy behaviour. After looking in vain at some promising locations, I decided to walk down to a place with better reception and to take out my compass. With this procedure I was quickly led to the hideout of the cache. The very large cache box is in good condition. Be careful to close it well. The box must have been quite expensive - I admit that I would not have invested that much money as a small, cheaper box serves the same purpose from my personal point of view which does not attach any importance to the container. Those cachers who look for a place near Graz to drop off large TBs or trading items, will be very happy about this cache. At the moment there is plenty of empty space in the box.

Thanks for hiding this cache at a very nice location. From my personal perspective the cache would have been even nicer if it had been set up as a multi-cache starting somewhere in Gratkorn-Dult.

I hope that the garden will continue to exist for many further years. In Autumn 2005 it was closed at least for a while.

PS: I am not sure whether I guess correctly which female cacher Deejay58 was referring to in his log. In any case, neither that cacher nor gustus are early birds in connection to the cache location. There did not exist a cache at this place before this cache, but the location does play a role in a cache that already exists since quite a while.

Irgendwie stellten wir uns den Alpengarten größer vor. Dennoch war das Lustwandeln dank dem Traumwetter sehr schön! Mit dem Finden hatten wir es nicht so eilig, da ja bekanntlich der Weg das Ziel ist. Da wir mit unserem neuen GPS einige Handlingprobleme hatten fand unser Backup Suchgerät "Ari" den Cache.

Together with grizz-gps we originally wanted to go to P2 by bike and walk up the path to the cache. But first we visited "Gratkorn Park" and I made a stupid mistake when entering the coordinates for P2, so we ended up on the road to "Weisseggerhof". We then continued to "Hoechwirt" and then took the path to the "Alpengarten".
Found quickly after convincing grizz-gps that it's hidden outside..
Afterwards down the hill via St. Veit.

Falls jemand eher wegen dem Garten als der Dose rauffahren will - laut Schild ist der Alpengarten am 23.9 und am 24.9 geschlossen.

Trotz schlechtem Empfang hab ich den nett gemachten Cache schnell gefunden und mir die Erstfinderprämie eingesackt. Den Garten hab ich jedoch nicht gesehehen.

Ich kenne übrigens eine Cacherin, die über den diesen Cache gar nicht erfreut sein wird. Tja, the early bird....
