Für den heutigen Nationalfeiertag planten Pimi1, smile64, EllisSunny und ich bereits letzte Woche eine gemeinsame Tour zu machen. Ich stellte eine Wanderung bei Deutschfeistritz zusammen, die uns vom Königgraben auf den Schartnerkogel, weiter über den Hagensattel zum Gamskogel und wieder in den Königgraben hinunter führen sollte - Caches natürlich inklusive ;-)
Dieser Vorschlag wurde sofort angenommen und der Wandergruppe gesellten sich schnell weitere Teilnehmer hinzu: Die komplette FamJoBiG, BrewKnow, Manolo420 und beso08.
Voller Tatendrang und bei bester Stimmung konnten wir diese Wanderung durchziehen und uns anschließend beim GH Bernthaler dessen ausgezeichneter Kulinarik widmen... davon aber nicht genug; danach konnten wir uns noch weitere drei Caches in der Umgebung schnappen.
Jedenfalls war es für alle Teilnehmer ein sehr genussvoller Ausflug, bei dem sich auch das Wetter von Regentropfen am Vormittag zu Sonnenschein am Nachmittag wandelte und sich von seiner besten herbstlichen Seite gezeigt hatte. Danke an die ganze Gruppe für diesen tollen Tag!

Anmerkung zu diesem Cache: Als die Gruppe komplett beim Schartnerkogel angekommen war, hatten beso08 und Manolo420 die Dose bereits gefunden und wir konnten uns alle bei tollen Rund- und Weitblick ins Doserl eintragen. Anhand des Spoilerbildes war der GZ eindeutig zu identifizeren.

Vom Flying Geko hab ich natürlich auch hierher einen Abstecher machen müssen.
Zwischendruch war der Weg kaum zu erkennen, da hats früher wohl mehr Bäume gegeben ;)

Aussicht war heute aber wunderschön, und in der aktuellen Version ist die Dose schnell und gut zu finden.

fast genau 2 Jahre nach dem das Original archiviert wurde nun den Nachfolgecache gefunden!
Bin von der Bärenhöhle und dem Flying Gecko gekommen, was eigentlich genau die verkehrte Richtung ist...

Der Aufstieg war bei dieser Hitze etwas schweißtreibend, aber oben ist wirklich ein sehr idyllischer Ort, der für alles entschädigt.

Die 3/4 Stunde vom Hagensattel zum Gipfel ist wirklich etwas übertrieben. Ich glaube, da ist Aufstieg + Abstieg + 1/4 Stunde Aufenthalt gerechnet. Aber ganz schön wilde Wegführung da oben. Vielleicht ist auch ein paar mal Verirren einkalkuliert.

Anschließend direkt weiter zum Gamskogel und dem fliegenden Geko....

Habe diesen Cache verwendet um die Funktionalität des vom benachbarten Namenlosen geretteten GPS zu testen.
Alles OK - Cache gefunden (wenn auch nicht einen möglichen Zustieg mit nur 2 Terrainsternen)

War eine schöne Wanderung bei herrlichem Wetter.

Warum ist es manchen nicht möglich innerhalb von einer Woche nicht die Entnahme einer coin zu loggen? Ich bin bestimmt niemand der sich auf die coins stürzt, aber dennoch macht sich eine gewisse Vorfreude breit wenn ich auf der Suche nach einem cache bin wo eine drinnen ist, und dann ist nix da :-( :-( Und wieder hat die coin jemand mitgenommen der nicht auf gc.com zu loggen scheint :-( ich finde es Schade wenn die schönen und teuren geocoins auf diese Art und Weise verschwinden.

Ansonsten ein sehr schöner Wandercache, am Gipfel ganz knapp Dr. Torque, Lisi und Ari verpasst was dem Eintrag im Gipfelbuch zu entnehmen war.

Das Highlight des heutigen Tages. Schöne Wanderung durch Herbstwälder und gemütliche Jause beim Gipfelkreuz. Der Cache war dann nach eineigem Suchen auch schnell gefunden.

Today I selected this cache for the following three reasons: (1) It is my closest unfound cache and I was not eager for a long drive,
(2) I was looking for a cache that involves a medium-length walk as I had other obligations today as well, and
(3) it is always worth to visit a cache that commemorates the first Styrian geocache. I am very thankful to Gert for gaving starting to hide caches in Styria.

When I read the name of this cache, reminiscences of my childhood came up. "Schartner Zitron" (lemon) was a bewerage quite popular back then. Apart from the bottles I also vaguely recall a special type of package which was popular among children. It did not look like the modern tetra pack packages, the look of the surface was more a kind of metallic one and the format of the package was not a cubic one. I cannot recall the bull logo from that time, however. Did it change at a later time or is my memory already that bad? In any case the cache name made me once again aware of how old I am already (unfortunately, older than "the grey giant Gert", but fortunately like him I am still alive, too).

When I realized that the cache is hidden in the summit area of the Schartnerkogel another stream of reminiscences was revoked in my head. I had visited the Schartnerkogel together with Alice during one of her first visits to Graz. Neither of us owned a GPS at that time and we did not even take a map of the area with us since for some reason I thought that the hiking guide book would be sufficient. Our route back then started at the inn Gratzer-Bernthaler and lead us via the Gamskogel and Hagensattel to the summit of the Schartnerkogel. For the way back we planned to descent eastwards towards the forester's lodge and follow the logging roads downwards from there back to our starting point. We got stuck, however, at a large area fenced off and so we had to take a detour and then had to continue in a trackless manner for quite a while. I was quite nervous and feared that we would get lost, but Alice managed to bring us back onto a path which lead us safely back to my car.

This past adventure motivated me to try to take the same path for my descent today than we planned to use many years ago. Let me start to tell the story of today's experience at the beginning. I left my car opposite to the inn Gratzer-Bernthaler and followed the road into the Koeningsgraben. Shortly after the place where I climbed up to Gert's cache a long time ago, I came across the logging road which has been used by many cachers to reach Gert's cache. I followed this road for some time and then decided to climb up quite some height meters in trackless manner in order to practice walking in this type of terrain and in order to increase the physical strain. Some time in between I again followed small paths before I finally arrived at a large logging road which I followed for a short moment before heading for the final access to the summit. This new logging road seems to lead around the whole mountain and looks very ugly. I cannot recall that it existed when I visited the Schartnerkogel together with Alice.

Despite the fact that the GPS-reception was not very good, I found the cache at once. I like hideouts like this one - the work is done when one has arrived in the target area, it is not necessary to waste time with searching around and checking 1000 possible candidates for hideouts. The cache box is in good condition and indeed quite large - so also large TBs fit into the box.

For the descent I indeed chose the route that I mentioned already above. To my big surprise I came across a few marked trees very close to the place where Alice and myself got stuck several years ago. I am sure that these markings did not exist back then. In any case, the markings led me to to two places where the fenced area could be entered and left again. Thereafter I first followed the logging road leading down to the inn, then made a shortcut along a very small path in order to meet the logging road further down again.

Thank you for yet another nice Waldläufer cache which is not of the sort "drive there, get out of the car, retrieve the cache and rehide it, get back into the car". I enjoyed the walk through the autumnal forest. I like the colourful trees, but I do not like the fact that soon the Winter will arrive ....

I hope that the cache will get further visitors soon. Contrary to DeeJay58 I think that the cache deserves a visit even if one has already visited Gert's cache and cannot obtain to two found it logs by one visit of the area.

BTW: What I found somewhat strange is that the information sheet in the cache mentions geocaching.com and navicache.com, but not opencaching.de despite the fact that the cache is listed on opencaching.de, but not (yet) on navicache.com

In der Früh losmarschiert und durch unseren schönen steirischen Wald gewandert. Nach einer Stunde Wanderung am Schartnerkogel angekommen. Sogar Bänke und einen Tisch gibt es da. Nach dem Eintrag ins Gipfelbuch die Cachsuche begonnen. Bald gefunden. Ein Versteck genau wie ich es mag. Danke für den Cache.

Als ich den Cache heute sah, wusste ich: Dass ist endlich der auf den ich gewartet habe um auf den Schartnerkogel zu fahren (wegen einem wäre ich nicht rauf).

Hab den Cache dann auch relativ schnell gefunden, nachdem ich mich ins Gipfelkreuzlogbuch eingetragen habe.
