At the coordinates specified above, you will find the last home of Heinrich Cotta. In 1811, together with Adam Reum he founded the Forest Botanic Garden in Tharandt. In 1810, Cotta came to Dresden, while he was appointed Forest-Council and Director of the Institute for Forest-Measurement by Friedrich August I. Because he had reserved the right of choosing his place of residence and continue in leading his academy, Heinrich Cotta went for this small town. Five years after the foundation of the institute it got the title Royal Saxony Forest-Academy. Today the Department of Forest Sciences of the Technical University of Dresden is holding this position. Heinrich Cotta is known for the establishment of the modern and sustainable forestry. Since the foundation of the garden it was growing step by step. The last large extension is the Forest-Park which was built in 1998. Now the area of the garden is nearly doubled. On a space of 15 ha, you can visit a replication of North-American woodlands. It is very recommendable to connect the cache with a visit in the Botanic-Garden. It’s awesome. In the first row you will find two times the same number. Therefor you need some basis knowledge of German language, because the numbers are written as words. Otherwise you can also take the age of Cotta at his last birthday. Memorise this number. You will need it a little later. Now go in front of the grave and turn into the direction which is having naturally the most force of attraction.
