ICE AGE
Throughout history our planet has been repeatedly subjected to changes in climate. Phases of strong cooling led to the so-called Ice Ages, in which glaciers extending from Scandinavia reached the Leipzig area several times. The last of these ice advances occurred about 150.000 years ago during the Saalian glaciation, named after the River Saale.
On their way from Scandinavia and Balticum the glaciers picked up large boulders and transported them for about 1000 km causing polishing and rounding. Most of these are granites and gneisses. The oldest of these rocks are over 2 billion years of age.
About 125.000 years ago during the subsequent climate warming the glacier melted and receded leaving behind its freight where it now rests. From 1993 to 1996 in the course of extending excavations erratics were recovered from the glacial deposits of the Saalian glaciation.

Heute war ich wieder in der Nähe und habe mal eine „Steinrunde“ gedreht. Nach und nach konnten die Infos gesammelt werden. Und die Logfreigabe erfolgte prompt. Nach dem Loggen bei GC hole ich den Log auch bei OC nach.

Bei unserem Besuch in Leipzig musste ich auch noch entdecken, was die Erde hier hervor gebracht hat. Ice Age kannte ich bisher nur aus dem Kino. Schön das auch mal vor Ort zu "erleben"

Heute mit dem Dratesel rund um die Messe gefahren. Eins der Ziele die Daten zum Cache ermitteln und das Foto von den gefundenen Gneisen und Graniten machen.
Leider ist an Station 1 die Informationstafel kaum noch zu lesen. Aufkleber, Farbschmierereien und Verschmutzung lassen den Text kaum noch erkennen. Bei den Stationen 2 und 3 sieht es deutlich besser aus. Sicher liegt es auch daran, dass sie fußläufig doch Einiges entfernt von der S-Bahn, auf dem Messegelände liegen.
Da ich kein Mobiltelefon nutze, kann ich als Solo-Cacher leider kein Bild "Ich und der Gneis" präsentieren. Ich hoffe die Zusammenstellung der Fotos, welche die Steine zeigen, um die es jeweils geht, ist ausreichend.

3°. Nicht Nordreferenz, sondern Außentemperatur. Nass-kaltes Wetter - zwar noch kein ICE-AGE, aber gemütlich ist auch was anderes. Ein bisschen Bewegung musste allerdings schon sein und so zog es mich mit meinem 2-rädrigen-Cachemobil zu diesem Earthcache, den ich schon länger auf der ToDo-Liste hatte.
Hier bin ich sonst eher weniger unterwegs, aber die Neue Messe ist immer einen Besuch wert. Wetterbedingt waren kaum Leute unterwegs und so konnte ich mich ganz den Aufgaben widmen. Die Antworten waren ohne Probleme zu finden und auch die Antwort zur Logfreigabe kam prompt.
