The rock cliffs in the forest are the ruins of an old quarry in the "Geopark Ruhrgebiet". This location were used to mined limestones of the cretaceous age as building blocks for houses and barns as well as to fix the roads in the surrounding villages. The operation of the quarry was abandoned at the beginning of the 20th century, because of the relatively low strength and poor weathering behavior gained the limstone no great importance.
The exposed cliffs of the old quarry are a geologic window under the earth and a view in the cretaceous age before 90 million years. This geotope provides a rare opportunity to see an excerpt from the typical rocks in the region. As a geotope this old quarry has a special meaning.

Heute waren wir mit dem Rad Richtung Unna unterwegs. Dabei konnten wir uns auch diesen Steinbruch ansehen.

wir waren heute in der Gegend um Unna unterwegs, die Felsklippen in Unna standen auf unserer Besuchsliste,
wir haben uns genau umgesehen und waren wieder einmal erstaunt über die Mächtigkeit der Wand, die Infotafel
erzählte uns viel Interessantes über die geologische Geschichte.

Auf meiner Fahrradroute immer wider hier vorbeigeradelt. Heute hat mich der Cache dazu verführt wieder einmal anzuhalten. - Hier gab es ja schon einmal einen Tradi -.
Es ist immer wieder erstaunlich welche interessanten Plätze es hier gibt. Für mich besonders interessant das scheinbar weit auseinander liegende Plätze wie die Quelle in Mühlhausen - auch ein Tradi - und die Felsenklippen geologisch zusammen gehören.
Danke fürs zeigen.
